G’day Friends! We’re just a week away from the end of the month and we urgently need to raise $600 to meet our monthly financial commitments (utilitiy bills and wages). I can share that we have just received an AWESOME gift of $300 (via paypal, directly) from a beautiful couple in the US. THANK YOU!!! Greatly appreciated… Now I want to let you all know that our finances are handled by an independent accountant, and as we are legally a non-profit entity, we must submit returns for the scrutiny of US Government officials. A supporter has just asked us some very direct questions about why we go out for dinner once per week, why we have weekly parties (on account of the cost) and why I give our youths 500 pesos. I have responded to these questions and our supporter was sufficiently satisfied. However, I need you all to know that we are open to questioning and suggestions of all forms, and appreciate your communications with us. I am a missionary for the Australian Christian Churches, but we are a non-denominational organisation and we ask you, members of “the Church” to help us by querying when something seems odd to you. In terms of the questions asked by our supporter, this is my response: 1. We don’t go out for dinner once per week. We went out once, and this was because we were given money specifically designated for “eating out.” The meals cost roughly $5 per person. 2. The weekly parties are generally not an “additional” expense. We generally just play games that require me to exert extra levels of energy. The games we have played include, Tag, Build-Ups, Capture the Flag, Hide and Seek, Pass the Parcel, etc., just to name a few… We do try to have vegetables, chicken and fruit drinks on this evening. 3. We give the children $4 and the teens $8 per week. We deposit the same amount of money into each child’s bank account. Most of the money the youths are given is then passed along to their folks for household expenses. We do give extra prizes, now-and-then, for extraordinary effort. This money is generally also given to family members who desperately need it. Please click on the link to read about Jason, a recovering drug addict and gang member:
