H.E. Consoles Ebola Victims In Kenema & Kailahun By Adeyemi Jackson The Minister of Information and Communications,Alhaji Alpha Kanu revealed on Tuesday 29th July 2014 on Radio Democracy Good Morning Sierra Leone Program that President Ernest Koroma’s visit to the Ebola Center in Kenema District was timely as it would help the President redefined his Government’s strategy to prevent the spread of the virus in the country. Alpha Kanu disclosed that President Koroma went to Kenema on Monday 28th July to see the Ebola Center, sympathize with victims and also talk to health workers to get firsthand information about their constraints that would enable Government re-strategize to curb the outbreak that has killed people in Kenema and Kailahun Districts and other parts of the country. The Minister also disclosed that President Koroma is expected to visit Kailahun District on 29th July 2014 after which he would make a public announcement on his new strategy to curb the virus affirming that Kenema now has a high prevalence rate of Ebola than Kailahun. He also denied allegations that President Koroma visited Kenema rather than Kailahun for fear of contacting the virus and underlined that the people appreciate the visit, an opportunity they used to inform the President about their constraints stating that during the visit, three health workers who contacted the disease were discharged due to early treatment and advised people to report suspected cases of Ebola to the nearest health centers. Minister Kanu continued that Government is trying to relocate the Ebola Treatment Center at the Kenema Government Hospital to an appropriate location and went on to state that the President held a meeting with various stakeholders during which the Kenema District Council Chairman appealed to Government to help restrain the movement of people so that they would not spread the virus to other parts of the District. Concluding, Alpha Kanu called on journalists to report the correct story on the outbreak.
