H.E KIKWETE TRAVELS 143 KILOMETRES USING TAZARA, PROMISES SUPPORT It is not every day that a president jumps on the train and commutes from one location to another, but August 21 2014 will forever be marked in the history of TAZARA as the day the President of the United Republic of Tanzania did just that. He jumped on the Uhuru Railway, commuted and dined, and, at the end of it all, promised to “walk” with TAZARA every step of the way. It was a great honour and privilege, hosting and conveying HIS EXCELLENCY DR JAKAYA MRISHO KIKWETE, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA, on a journey from Ifakara to Kisaki using a Special TAZARA VIP Train. On behalf of all employees of TAZARA, management took the opportunity to thank His Excellency and express profound pride that he chose to travel by the Uhuru Railway from Ifakara to Kisaki (in Selous Game Reserve), a distance of 143 kilometres and one of the most highly patronised sections of TAZARA. His Excellency was also highly commended for making use of the T1 (Tanzania-One) Coach, which was specifically made, way back, for use by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania whenever he chose to travel on TAZARA. “Thank you for the gracious services and warm reception. Keep up the good work. You will overcome the challenges. I will walk with you every step of the way,” he wrote in the train’s Visitors’ Book. The President was accompanied by his wife and Member of the National Executive Committee, Mama Salmar Kikwete, the Minister of Works, Hon. John Mwagufuli, the Deputy Minister of Energy and Minerals, Hon. Julius Masele, Dr Joel Bindera, the Regional Commissioner for Morogoro Region and other senior Government and CCM officials.
