H.G. Wells classic novel, War of the Worlds, exemplifies the deep-seated fear Europeans have that aliens would do to them what they have done to others. Imagine an alien nation attacking the United States and enslaving its inhabitants. Imagine these beings taking the Washington Monument, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Statue of Liberty and putting them in their parks and public squares. Visualize alien scientists exhuming the bodies of dead presidents and putting them on display in their museums and art galleries. And then imagine alien children sitting in their classrooms discussing the lives of primitive Americans. In many respects, truth is stranger than fiction. -Anthony T.
