H&M Frame tech: Early Galaxie body mounts. One of the things that H&M (and other teams for sure) started doing early on to stiffen the resolve of their race cars was to replace the stock rubber (read: flexibile) body biscuits with aluminum pads. The first shot shows one of those alloy replacement biscuits still in place on the surviving Wood Brothers 1963 Galaxie. You will also note the longer than stock body frame mount/pad installed to accomodate the narrowed up rear frame rails (as previously discussed) The second shot shows that the Gastonia Flash got a little lazy when creating the fake Gurney Galaxie. Not only did he not narrow up the frame rails. He also didnt replace the stock 50 year old rubber body biscuits. Heck, he didnt even get around to installing a new nut on the body retaining bolt. He must have been in a hurry and had a...ahem...*Fish* on the line. Of course, it could be worse. The fourth shot is of the Fireball replica that Lee Holman owns. As is well known, that car was rebodied back from its original 1964 status (as a Banjo prepped Galaxie raced by AJ and JJ) for museum display purposes. Ken Myler got that job in early 1965 when the hulk was a leftover at H&M. He cut a few corners in the process. One of those was just tacking the body to the frame with strap. No body mounts at all and the body seems to be laying on the frame. The modern fuel filter is far from right. btw.
