H&M Tech. Spring perches. The frount mounting spot for the rear - TopicsExpress

H&M Tech. Spring perches. The frount mounting spot for the rear leaf springs also went though an evolution. At first stock spring perches were used. The first two shots show the 1962 H&M display frame. Note the angled rear shocks (with tie rod ends by 1962) that was used briefly in 1962 and early 1963 as a way to stop axle tramp. Must not have worked too well, because later H&M Cow Belly Galaxies did not employ that feature. The third shot is the surviving Lorenzen Galaxie frame. Stock front spring perches were used. The Wood Brothers beelfed up the front spring perches on the Galaxie they ran in 1963 (next to last shot). My 1964 H&M Galaxie came with fully fabricated spring perches...that were narrower than stock to accomodate the special 2 leaf springs used that season. By 1964 the teams were using solid spring eye bushings instead of factory rubber. I assume that narrower leaves were used for greater tire clearance...and that is the same reason that H&M also narrowed the rear of their 1963 and 1964 Galaxie frames. about two inches. More on that later.
