H.P. Lovecraft Story of the Week.....The Unnamable. With this 1923 tale we close our month long tribute to one of Lovecrafts most beloved characters. Randolph Carter. Though in this tale he is simply revered to as Carter so whether he is Randolph or not is open to interpretation Either way a fine & fitting tale to end the month with. In this story we find two friends, Carter and Joel Manton, sitting atop an old crypt relating stories of darkness & dread when suddenly Carter begins to tell his friend of the unspeakable horror & entity that reportedly haunts the old house that stands nearby. This entity possibly born in the 17th century cannot be perceived by the normal senses thus earning its name as the unnamable. Of course the entity finds the men and by morning they are raving and wounded and in a hospital, bearing scars from hooves & horns. And as Joel claims to Carter at the very end......... It was everywhere — a gelatin — a slime — yet it had shapes, a thousand shapes of horror beyond all memory. There were eyes — and a blemish. It was the pit — the maelstrom — the ultimate abomination. Carter, it was the unnamable! So who here has read this one recently?? Thoughts? art by menton3
