HABITANT ZAMBIA HELPS THE POOR Habitant Zambia says Zambia still faces a critical housing shortage with 64% of the population living on under dollar a day. Habitant Zambia Chairman Chisambwa Katengo, says his company has embarked on a project to construct over 240 houses under the new housing unit for 2014-2015 that will benefit orphans and the vulnerable children. Speaking at the “Bankers Build Housing Program” official opening ceremony in Kamanga Township in Lusaka, today Mr. Katengo observed that one of the major barriers to access to housing units in the country is lack of funds by citizens. He said Habitant Zambia in partnership with other financial institutions in the country, has decided to create houses for two Kamanga residents Betty Kayuni and Faides Mashinuni whose houses they live in are current5ly in deplorable state hence the need to empower them with decent with decent houses that will last longer. And speaking at the same event Bank of Zambia governor Michael Gondwe, said the empowerment of the two Kamanga residents with houses will break existing barriers to finanacial inclusion and give them full economic potential in their lively hood. He said the development will help government overcome some social economic challenges it faces to empower people in the country. He said this in a speech that was read on his behalf by his deputy Dr. Tukiya Mabula.
