HABITAT FOR HUGGINS....PLEASE READ! Found the most amazing project that needs the generous help of this giving community. Wrote earlier that when we moved to Fulshear from Houston (Sharpstown), I was shocked when we had to fill out paperwork for my children entering public schools. Did we have running water? Did we have electricity? Were we able to afford food? How could this be because I realized that Fulshear is extremely affluent, but never realized the extreme poverty in our town. I ventured around and found the most dilapidated shacks where people actually stayed. How in a town with so much wealth are there children living in conditions whereby they have no essentials? It really bothered me that my kids classmates, school friends may not have their basic needs met. Saw that Huggins had these blue bags that these people packed to be sure kids had food/snacks/something to drink over the weekends or breaks. Asked my kids if buses left off kids to really poor houses. If so, if you hear ANY kid making fun, you let me know...you understand??? Had to do something about this but still wasnt ready. LOVE how we all adopted Jack, but now lets do something that will help many innocent children in our area. Habitat for Huggins is a project that is WordServs. I had asked where the poorest of the poor were and I got my answer when I got the call from Chris, I believe her name is, yesterday. She remembered working with me on the lobby at Huggins. So I told her Id like to help by doing the interior job, mainly the kids rooms. (and were giving these kids air conditioning) Chris job is one of service to the poor. Habitat for Huggins is rebuilding a home that has 8 children, 10 and under. PLEASE dont judge because some of my friends have said, whyd they have 8 if they couldnt afford? BOTTOM LINE: ITS NOT THE CHILDRENS FAULT!!! Im pretty positive this is a classmate of my sons, who is now 10, because when I did art with the children this sounds like the story of a student; the sibling count and story of how the 8 came together sounds too similar. When I spoke to Chris ( and I pray I have her name right) she said the home wouldnt be done until the summer, when she could take on some of my stuff. So I asked how we could expedite this...would it help to get the community involved? I know many of the tradesmen, for instance carpet layers who can lay rooms with all materials and labor for $200. There are folks who have companies that may be electrical, plumbing, flooring, in our community that can help. PLEASE HELP!!! We need a place to store the things we need to furnish this home. Does someone have a spare space? Chris will interview about what I need to design these childrens rooms. I am a great bargain shopper but love high quality. To last furniture the wear and tear of a family of 10! WHAT WE NEED: Money for: 2 sets of bunk beds for girls (4 girls to share one room) 2 sets of bunk beds for boys (4 boys share one room) 8 twin mattresses bedding My designing friend, Debra, who owns Red Potato Market, will tackle the living room with help from her design community. Will research for more needs. Want to meet at the site and see where they are at. Down to the studs is what I understand. My friend, Megan, who is opening a new shop in Katy, Vintage Back Roads, has agreed to help paint/repurpose older outdated pieces if necessary. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOURE IN. UNTIL EVER CHILDS HOME IS COZY..... LETS ROLL...
