HAITI CHICKEN PROGRAM As we continue to develop our twinning support with St. Jeanne de Chantal in Haiti our direction is towards projects that can be sustaining with involvement from parishioners there. Our new priest, Father Gousse, has experience with placing chickens with the families of students to develop flocks for eggs and food. The program begins with our donation of 20 chickens per family, who raise the chickens to begin their flock. They can use the chickens for eggs and meat, but a year later they must “pass on” 5 chickens to another family and continue their own flocks. This way the project grows and helps families reduce their food costs so students can remain in school and tuition can be paid. The approximate cost per chicken is $10. Our support of the school system will continue, but our hope is to use this program to indirectly support our mission and improve conditions in a more sustainable way. Contributions can be made by noting Haiti Chicken Program on checks or through Online Giving. We want to thank everyone for their support of all the Parish Twinning and Parish Families Against Hunger programs.
