HAITI TRIP BLOG I Dear Life, Thank you for instilling in me the outlooks on life which I currently have. My first day back in the land of my Father and my Fathers Father and I have just, from my way to the airport seen some of the most depressing parts of the city. I will never complain about a pothole when I have seen streets that are in, what can best be described as war torn conditions. My aunts home is surrounded by these same streets and though it is a new construction and nice crib the area was plagued with 2 1/2 days of no current (electricity). This being due to no known natural issue, and in temperatures that are best described as GOD AWFUL HOT!! The water issue is no better and took my first scoop and bucket shower wash since I was a child. Slept on the porch the first night as this was the only refuge from the unbearable summer tropical heat that every now and again slipped up and let a breeze sneak in. The trade of was the 10 plus mosquito bites as they must have thought I was the midnight buffet! As my dad and I discussed this while getting prepared for breakfast (huge feast of dish of spaghetti and sliced up hot dogs, dish of eggs, bread, coffee, tea and lime juice). We discussed how bad it was and my only WORDS were AT LEAST WE HAVE WATER, AT LEAST WE HAVE A HOME, AT LEAST WE HAVE FOOD. THAT BEING SAID...PEOPLE UNTIL YOU HAVE TRAVELED AND/OR SEEN SOME OF THE CONDITIONS PEOPLE LIVE IN AROUND THE WORLD YOU WILL NOT REALIZE HOW GOOD YOU HAVE IT! That also being said I sought refuge elsewhere since my numerous cousins were there some with their children and it was a tight fit. Anyone knowing the culture knows they will go without so that you have. Anyone also knows I am not a fan of being a burden to others even when they insist. So I took myself to a hotel in the city so me and my pops (if he chooses) could be in a setting where the infrastructure issues are less apparent. Still a city boy at heart :-) ALTHOUGH I KNOW RELATIVELY NOTHING ABOUT THE CURRENT LAY OF THE LAND OR THE AREA...A MAN CANNOT BE A STRANGER IN HIS OWN HOME...JE SUIS TOUJOUR HAITIAN...AYITI CHERIE
