HANDS-ON At the Assessment Meeting of Marawis Ecological Solid Waste Management Launch, I appreciated the word HANDS-ON from ENGAGEs Aliah Cali, former DepEd Madaris Director. Walk the streets, advised Prof. Linang Macabalang, sister to the popular writer Ali Macabalang (BPI ARMM former Chief). Feel the soil and dirt. Linang recalled Quiapo Barangay Chairperson Lucmans leadership style in managing the former Texas-like area and former COMELEC Commissioner Abdul Marohombsar who partnered on peace and order with wife former MSU President Emily Marohombsar . Iron-style in leadership. They both walked their community. The barangay chair would walk the Muslim community daily and throw back the trash of residents on the entrance of their doorsteps if their trash wasnt thrown on time. Trash management is a microcosm of governance. Further, leaders would have to be hands-on to handle complex realities such as disaster risk phenomena and basic needs of their people.
