HANUKKAH – 8TH NIGHT This silver menorah was handed down in my mothers family for generations and is the one we lit at Hanukkah when I was a child. It dates from around 1800 and uses olive oil and wicks instead of candles. The pillars on either side exemplify the use of architectural themes, as was common with German hanukkiot. The shammash calls to mind a boat -- another common theme. My mother told me she had been told that there is only one other hanukkiah exactly like this in existence. However, there is a very similar one in the Israel Museum. May you live to see your childrens children! Shalom on Israel. (Psalm 128:5(6)) This picture, taken on the last night of Hanukkah shows ourselves and f[ve of our seven grandchildren celebrating with lots of hanukkiot, including the silver one. Happy Hanukkah! -- David and Martha
