HAPPINESS is different things to different people, but regardless, it is a temporary or transitory emotion which continually rises and crashes, just like waves to the seashore. It is dependent upon the circumstance of the moment, and therefore some people experience very little of it, while others may have the good fortune providing it comes from a wholesome source, to feel it more frequently. When however, we keep trying to attain happiness through sin, it often ends in more pain and despair. JOY on the other hand is something quite different. Joy is a deep abiding sense of serenity and security despite your circumstances, despite your crosses and sacrifices, of knowing who you are and where you belong. It is a tiny foretaste of eternal life which rests in your soul, when you know and believe that nothing and no one except your own self, can ever take you away from your Saviour. To experience real joy we must first have hope and faith in the resurrected Christ, and His promise to us of salvation. Happiness is part of our human experience, but joy is part of our divine inheritance through the sacrifice of Christ Jesus, and it is offered to all people. Heaven is waiting.
