HAPPY 100TH, SENHOR LAMBERTO! A Goan Icon hits a century today. Lambert Mascarenhas. Freedom fighter. Founder/Editor of Goa Today. Writer of - among other books and articles - Sorrowing lies my land, to me the definitive book describing the Goa that was. Every time I read it I smell, hear, see, feel those lazy old Goan village days, ways, and relationships [you dont have to agree with the last 1/4 of the book, which is all about a freedom fighters idealism of the times]. Great family man: husband, father and grandfather. A man who my mother often pointed out as an example [in vain] to me: Look at Lambert! He never, but NEVER has more than two drinks, however long the party or wedding might be! This disciplined lifestyle enables him to be perfectly lucid, active and witty today. And you bet hes celebrating with a grand party tonight. I must have missed out many of his qualifications, qualities and activities here. But I could never miss out Perfect Family Friend. My parents and Lambert & Jolly shared a strong, warm, easy friendship for as long as I remember. Happy Birthday, Senhor Lamberto!
