HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY JAMILUDDIN AALI (ABBUJAN) :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Born 20th JANUARY, 1925 to Nawab Sir Amiruddin Ahmed Khan of Loharu and Lady Jamila; Jamiluddin Aali migrated to Karachi, Pakistan on 13th August, 1947 with his wife Tayyaba and six months old daughter Humaira by last train from Delhi. He was an Assistant at the Ministry of Commerce at the Government of British India in Delhi. He continued with the same job in Karachi for two years. He later appeared in CSS competition exams and cleared it and got posted as an Income Tax Officer in Karachi in 1952. Jamiluddin Aali is the founder member of PECHS having won the election and remained its Secretary in 1956-57. Awarded UNESCO Fellowship in 1961 in France. Toured Far East and America on study of reading materials. Awarded six months HARVARD UNIVERSITY fellowship in 1962 Seminar in Boston headed by Henry Kissinger. Jamiluddin Aali has also remained SEVP & Member Executive Board at National Bank of Pakistan and as Advisor Pakistan Banking Council attached with Finance Ministers; Ghulam Ishaq Khan and later Dr. Mahbubul Haq. He retired from NBP in 1990. He is the founder member of Pakistan Writers Guild having remained its Secretary and later Secretary General before Guild was moved to Lahore. Jamiluddin Aali initiated five annual literary awards during his tenure in PWG...which continued for several years. Dr. Jamiluddin Aali belongs to that select group of men of letters whose literary interests and activities have spanned a very wide portion of the literary spectrum. His true métier is poetry and prose in which he has been perpetuating the traditions of his family. In poetry, Mr. Aali has been an innovator par excellence, in so far as he has revived the classical form of doha and adapted it into Urdu imparting a distinct South Asian Muslim cultural flavour while retaining its beauty. Besides doha he has also written ghazals, poems, lyrical ballads or geets and patriotic songs. His long poems reflect a unique discourse on great Scientific and Philosophical themes, blended with aesthetics. In prose, Mr. Aali is known for his incisive and picturesque travelogues with subtle but effective patriotic undertones and his newspaper columns he has been writing for past 45 years, have played a very significant role in awakening the laity to the need of intellectual pursuits and mature thoughts on contemporary national and international issues. This prose style is unique and comprehensive to all classes of readers. His mission has been the search and dissemination of knowledge. He has been acknowledged by eminent critics of the Urdu world as a trend setter. Mr. Aali has been very active, multi-dimensionally, in the development of national language by virtue of his close, purely honorary, association with Anjuman-e-Taraqqi-e-Urdu Pakistan for the past 55 years the position he shifted to someone on account of his weak health specially after the loss of his wife he has been married to for almost 70 years. He has been instrumental in the publication by the Anjuman of around 350 books and manuscripts to which he has contributed learned introductions which speak volumes of his erudition and scholarship. Mr. Aali has also remained the Chairman of Urdu Dictionary Board for 3 years. Under the aegis of this very Anjuman he was associated as Honorary Secretary for 12 years and Honorary Administrator for three years with the Urdu College, which evolved into two prestigious institutions. The Urdu Science College Building was raised during Mr. Aali’s tenure. He was highly instrumental in growth of the English-Urdu Dictionary of Dr. Moulvi Abdul Haq and in the arrangement and publication of some rare manuscripts and great classics has been one of Mr. Jamiluddin Aali’s main passion. Furthermore, he has also vehemently served for the expansion of the Urdu College into Federal Govt. Urdu University and remained the Deputy Chair of its Senate for 3 years. Mr. Aali has been associated with the development of not only the national language and its institution, but also of regional languages. He is one of the principal founding fathers of the Pakistan Writers Guild which has a membership comprising men of the letters of all Pakistani languages. Mr. Aali has been constantly devoted to services for the welfare of indigent Pakistani Writers and the bereaved families of those who are no more. Mr. Jamiluddin Aali as an expansion of his activities also entered the field of practical social science. He has been a Senator from Sindh in the upper house of parliament where he was also elected as Chairman of Senate’s Standing Committee of Education, Scientific and Technological Research. In early 2014 he gave the charge of Hon. Secretary of Anjuman Taraqqi e Urdu to Dr. Fatema Hasan two few back---having served 62 years in Anjuman. He remains the Executive Honorary Lifetime Advisor of Anjuman Taraqqi e Urdu (Pakistan) Jamiluddin Aali is the recipient of following three gazetted awards of the Government of Pakistan; 1. President of Pakistans Pride of Performance Gold Medal in 1992. 2. Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Urdu Literature) in 2003. 3. Kamal-e-Funn Award...(2006) He was awarded PhD. (D.Litt) Honoris Causa by the University of Karachi in 2004. Since September 2013 having lost his wife (69 years association) Tayyaba, Aalijee has not been keeping stable health. He holds the unique record of being the weekly columnist in Jang for more then 50 years ----- a record which has not been created by any columnist in Pakistan. aali.pk
