HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE LATE DAVID SEVILLE, JANUARY 27, 1919 1 / 27 / 1919 = The late David Seville ( Ross Bagdasarian ) was born. Died = 1 / 16 / 1972 Hometown = Fresno , California. David began writing songs at an early age. In 1951, he & his cousin, William Saroyan, wrote a # 1 Hit for Rosemary Clooney called Come On - A My House. David signed with Liberty Records as an artist in 1956 & recorded Armens Theme. In 1958, he came up with the novel idea of recording the human voice on tape at one speed, then playing the tape back at a faster speed to mimic the voices of tiny animals. He created characters for the voices. The first time he did this, in March 1958 , the novelty song Witch Doctor became a # 1 Hit. Later that year, he gave the voices he created the name of Chipmunks = Alvin, Theodore & Simon & came up with a Christmas classic called The Chipmunk Song. David Seville is gone, but --- The Chipmunks live on . Cartoons , Movies, etc. Special thanks to our friend, Frank Buongervino, for the above information.
