HAPPY INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY! At 54 Nigeria cannot be said to be a young nation anymore. But compared with nations that are celebrating 300, 400 years anniversaries...we still have a long way to travel! I was in an Anglican Church in northern England that was established in 1200! All the priests that had pastored the church from inception to date had their names on the notice board with the dates they were in charge! A church building had survived more than 800 years! Sadly though that on the day I visited, some 16years now, there were only a handful worshippers in a building meant to contain thousands! Christianity is undergoing a major metamorphosis in the West, no doubt. We too, as a nation are going through some tough times. But we must not despair. All the older nations went through what we are going through, even worse scenarios than we find ourselves in! But they survived. We will not only survive but thrive by Gods grace. But as 2015 draws closer there are patterns that are emerging that we all must watch, especially as Christians. Top Christian leaders are being targeted for intimidation, harassment and embarrassment. The whole idea is to ensure that the Church does not function as a single force! Strike the shepherd and the sheep must scatter! I understand that this is a script being acted that has worked perfectly elsewhere! So things may get messier as the days draw closer to the 2015 d day! What must we do? 1. Men and women of God must know that they are special targets. If they can be framed for doing no wrong, then how will be if there is evidence of their wrong doing! So watch your back! 2. In as much as we know that men and women of God are not infallible, we must be weary of spurious scandalous stories making the rounds without evidence. Many newspapers and magazines use such stories to sell themselves. Worse still, we now know that politicians are using them for cheap political gains. So dont believe every negative story you hear or read about Gods servants, which are without substance. 3. Christians should pray for their leaders and expect the best from them. Too often, we dont pray for them but are willing to believe the worst about them even if there is no basis for it. Worse still we tear them down with our own mouths! If you think those leaders are bad, have you thought of what could happen if they didnt exist? Happy independence anniversary to us all!
