HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL THE MOMS OUT THERE. Hope you all have a great Mothers day. Also let me say how sorry I am them all of you couldnt have had our mother as your mom as well. LOL I know all of you had great moms and think the world of them as you should. Moms are something special. Really cant replace them. A little bit about our mom, of course she and dad were only six days apart in age. And between the two of them they raised 9 of us. Have no idea how they managed that. But they did and Im sure that daddy would agree that there is no way he could have done it without her. The meals we had in that house on Boscobel street in East Nashville can never be matched. At least not by me. Roast Beef or fried chicken or maybe meatloaf, nothing better than Sunday supper. And her Faith, well she had the Faith like none other. I guess you could say it was like the faith a child has in their mother. She never failed to pay her tithes. If you were to give her ten dollars for her birthday, she would set aside one of them dollars for her Church. Never failed. She of course loved her children more than anything else. But who couldnt love us ? lol She did everything on her own too. When she passed away some 11.5 years ago I went in the house to paint it and found that when she had a hole in the wall from a doorknob hitting it, she would use bandaids as a patch , along with drywall mud of course. And over the years as we would be doing repairs on the house she would gather a bit of the sawdust and use it for wood filler. She would mix it with glue and sometimes add a little color from iodine I do believe. She used that stuff also to cover scratches in the floor. She would paint the outside of the house when it needed it. As a matter of fact she was the last one to paint the front porch and steps and when they were taken down, I kept a piece of it. Still got it. We watched her split an apple into with her bare hands. And she could chop a snake in half too if need be. Not much she couldnt do I guess. And she feared no one. I guess she was well into her seventies when she decided to walk to the post office. Now for those of you that know East Nashville know that it had its bad people, punks Id call them. On her way, less than two blocks from our home she had a young punk start to follow her. Well she figured he was up to no good so she held on to her purse a little tighter. Sure enough that dumb a** thought he could take it from her. WRONG ! Aint happening boy ! He pulled on it and gave it all he had but he just couldnt get it away from her. Long story short, he ran back to the others as She went back to the house and got her stick she made with a nail in it and continued on her trip. Yep, East Nashville was a tough place but, it was because of the moms like mine that so many of us had. Oh of course I could go on and on but I think you all get the picture. And I think you all can relate too. And yes, I miss her very much. SO TO ALL THE MOMS OUT THERE, I HOPE YOU HAVE THE VERY BEST MOTHERS DAY EVER. And if you still have your mother with you, take her out to dinner or do something nice for her. You never know if this is your last mothers day. And to my four sons, Ronnie Adkins Jr., Julian Adkins, Justin Adkins and Alex Adkins, you boys better treat your mom to a special day. After all, picking her for your mom is one thing I know I got right.
