HAPPY NOBEL LAUREATE DAY FROM THE VFNYSC Today we pause to observe the intellectual brilliance of two of St. Lucia’s proudest sons. As a small island state, St. Lucian has blessed the world with two Nobel laureates, the highest number of Nobel laureates per capita. In 1979 St. Lucia’s first laureate, Sir Arthur Lewis was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics and in 1992 its second laureate, Hon Derek Walcott, was awarded the prize for Literature. Interestingly, both men were born on the 23rd of January, hence the designation of this day as Nobel Laureate Day for St. Lucians all over the world. It is against this background that the Vieux-Fort North Youth and Sports Council wishes everyone a productive Nobel Laureate Day. Also we hope that our laureates will inspire us to strive for creative and intellectual excellence in our quest to positively impact the world.
