HAPPY SUNDAY DECEMBER 7, 2014 ... Do any of you remember what happened on Sunday December 8, 2013? One year ago on a Sunday evening we paid the fees for Ben and George to be moved from the kill buyers lot to the End of the Line Horse Placement lot and begin their journey to Texas!!! Can yall believe it has been a whole year? Sometimes it is hard to believe. On Sunday December 8, 2013 we were sitting on the sofa in our old house surrounded by boxes. We had sold our house and had purchased what would become Rally C Ranch but the sellers had a leaseback so we had another couple of weeks before we would be moving. Ben and George popped up on my Facebook newsfeed. Despite following EOTL for some reasons I had never really seen any of the horses needing homes. I immediately showed Jay the Boys and feeling an immediate connection to George he said we had to do whatever was needed to save them. We didnt know what this journey would bring or how it works to buy 2 emaciated draft horses off Facebook who were half way across the country and figure out how to get them to Texas. After all, who buys horses sight unseen of Facebook from people you dont know in a state half way across the country???? The evening was full of calls, texts, messages and emails to everyone we could think of who might help us. We contacted our friend Karen Connors McGee whose comment on a previous EOTL post was the reason I followed the page in the first place. We needed to confirm that EOTL was legit. Where was our money going? Who were the people running this group?? Would we ever actually see these horses?? Then we had to figure out how to get them home and what to do to prepare a barn that had previously been used for cattle and old cars! We started contacting shipping companies that night and reached our new friend Beverly McGowan and her husband after Jay found their website. They breed, raise and rescue drafts a few hours from us and have become an amazing source of information and advice after that first call late on a Sunday night. We paid their fees and reluctantly put them in quarantine for 30 days and focused on getting our family moved to the ranch. What a whirlwind! The past year has been full of incredible highs and heart wrenching lows. Throughout it all you have come along with us and the Boys have gained weight, gained confidence, and grown into the incredible horses that we knew were hidden under the abuse and neglect that they clearly have experienced. Tomorrow, on their actual anniversary we will do about a post about what we have learned. We are not new to horses or to rescue work, but buying the boys opened our eyes to a whole new aspect of the horse industry. We have learned a great deal and will be sharing a few thoughts about this past year. Many of you will remember the EOTL pictures of the Boys that began this adventure on that Sunday night one year ago. The after pictures were taken today. We are probably biased but we think they are looking super handsome and we had a great time this afternoon taking pictures and hanging out with all of our horses in the pasture. Have a wonderful Sunday and an even better week. Keep an eye out tomorrow for a second post :-)
