HAPPY happy happy birthday Adam, 25 years old! It really - TopicsExpress

HAPPY happy happy birthday Adam, 25 years old! It really doesn’t seem that long ago. You initiated dad and I into a new lifestyle followed by your sisters which we have never regretted. My Dad is out of the hospital and he sounds great, he came home yesterday and we are taking him and Mom out today for Adam’s Birthday dinner. Probably will go to the Wooden Spoon and Adam wants vanilla layered cake with raspberry filling. Sounds good to me. We left for NYC yesterday, had to be there for some business with Portia. We took a short excursion over to the Hamptons at the tip of Long Island. I have heard all my life about the wonderful Hamptons. Boring, boring, boring unless you have money, money, money. It has some of the most expensive real estate in the US there but that’s all there is. We saw very few restaurants, a few Italian and one or two seafood but a couple of plastic surgery offices. No real shopping like there would be in similar seacoast towns on Cape Cod. A few limos, even one at an annual flea market. No fast food places at all. Verne and I were unimpressed. Some clothing stores, antique shops had little selection with outrageous prices, $950 for a tote bag! We didn’t even see any boats on the water, sailing or other. But it is off of our list of places to see. It was a new experience. We stopped an ice cream truck and it was $8 for two ice creams on a stick! Portia is working hard and is in love with NYC like we are. Jessie going to a Bastille Day festival in DC today. They are going to wear fake French handlebar mustaches. Sounds interesting. Jess, Beth’s mom and brother Ben picked up Beth at the airport today. She has been in Europe, at the Hague for two weeks running a conference, part of her job. Jess has been hanging out with Smith graduates who now live in DC. She is trying to make new friends, one thing Jess never likes to be is bored. When she was bored when she was younger, she could be trouble. Portia went to an exhibit today, and don’t ask me how, but it was a science exhibit with water where you don’t get wet if you walk through it. She was trying to explain it to me but I am not sure I grasped it. Again thanks to Tina for picking Dad up at the hospital as we needed to be away. In the Hamptons, Verne bought me a new straw hat and an inexpensive huge white divers watch that is going to look so cool. He had to help the shopkeeper take it apart and put batteries in it. They were referring to him as Verne, the handy man. I got so much exercise in, great cardiac rehab, I tried to walk everywhere, up the streets and in the shops, shopping for Adam’s birthday. We laughed and joked and have been having a great relaxing time. Even ate great tacos at a roadway stand in Vermont on the way down to NYC. Again, Happy Birthday Adam, Love Mom.
