HARD TACKLE! Just as the title suggests, it is straight, tough talk this morning as I invite the career Jonathanians, the Buharists and the Buharist converts (the category I proudly enlist in) to lay their cards on the table and bear their minds on the reason they are rooting for whoever they are rooting for. This is not time for fence-sitting as we all know that this nation needs CHANGE - whether with the ruling party changing their approach to governance of with the opposition coming on board - and well meaning Nigerians like most of you folks on my friends list Im sure are not so comfortable with the status quo this country currently assumes. In my usual manner, I have decided to punch the arguments that supports Jonathans re-election bid and those arguments are at best described as balderdash! I am at an advantaged position where I come in contact with people perceived to be Jonathans brothers and kinsmen in the South/South (SS). I have had series of discussions with folks of different ethinic affiliations in the Big Heart of the nation, Delta state, ranging from the Urhobos to the Itsekiris, the Ijaws, Delta Igbos, Igbos and the rest of them. It is saddening to confess that the reason most of them want their brother back in Aso Villa is because he is their brother and he should be allowed to finish his two terms just like Obasanjo did. Surprised? Yes, that is the prevailing reason behind their staunch support for The Jesus of Otuoke. Another set of Jonathanians that I have come across want the man back for second term just because he is a christian and they, as christians cannot support a muslim as that portends support for Islamization of Nigeria. Tell them they aint making sound judgement and they wont mind invoking Igbe (a deity) on you and your generations to come. But you have to wonder whether these people live in the same country we are seeing towing the line of the popular Titanic ship. For six years (by 2015); - their brother would has presided over a country that has ceded a large chunk of three NE states to the terrorists who now abduct girls and women with reckless abandon. - their christian brother would have overseen an economy that keeps falling apart with no clear recue mission in view - their brother would have polarized this country across religion and ethnic divides so as to serve his personal ambitions - their brother would have allowed some billions of dollars (I have lost count actually) to go missing in different sectors and ministries - the death of some 16 job seekers that trooped in to try their luck during the Abba Moro farce would have gone un-investigated by their brother - our Naira would have become as useless as Nokia charger is to an HP laptop under the careful(less) watch of their brother - the GDP of the nation would have grown while employment remains a white elephant mission under their brother - even with the privatization of power, Nigerians would have successfully paid top Nairas for darkness under their brothers rule. The list is endless as the Jonathan rule has done more harm than good to the collective unity and existence of this country. A nation where ex militants dictate what goes on in their states. Some weeks ago, the president was due to kickstart the ground breaking commissionig of a gas plant in Ogidigben Delta state. The state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan already gave the president the green light to come over, only for an ex-militant, Government Ekpemupolo a.k.a. Tompolo to tell the president without mincing words not to come. Ofcourse, the shoeless man heeded the order of the latter. Perhaps to further show how deeply rooted his influence is in the state, Tompolo now picks who emerges for whatever post strikes his interest in Delta state, with the backing of Jonathans leading acapella soloist, Edwin Clark and GEJ himself. Its a militant world, you say? You are right! Need I remind you the pathetic state of our health institutions? A situation where India, Germany, South Africa, China, Saudi Arabia have become the safe haven for our sick folks who can afford the bills leaves a sour taste in our mouth. What about the education sector? It is best left not talked about to avoid arousing the irritation of concerned Nigerians. Even as the existing universities struggle to get adequately funded by the FG, Jonathan in his benevolent mind dashed us an additional 12 brand new federal universities - with no structures I dare say! Change is obviously inevitable and for the first time in probably my lifetime, I have seen, smelt and perceived the eagerness in the citizens (a vast majority) to effect that change which leads to the next topic of discourse as we engage our intellectual minds in the comment section. Is APC that change? Is Buhari that change? I have made my stand known earlier in the post, so the floor is open for your active presentations and participation. Top of the morning greetings, fellas!
