HAS A YEAR PASSED ALREADY!!! As the last Question Time approaches, Im reflecting on how quick the year has passed! Im pleased to say some welcome resources have been secured for Northern Tasmania, including: * $3 million for a healthier Tamar River. Just a few weeks ago I was pleased to show Environmnt Minister Greg Hunt the extraordinary results achieved in the first year of our program * We have secured funding to work out how best to fix Launceston’s sewerage infrastructure and achieve some quick wins in this area; * $7.5 million is in place to revitalise North Bank and weather-proof Invermay Park; * $3 million has been announced for the new Integrated Timber Processing Facility in Scottsdale; * The $2.5 million in federal funding has seen a quick start to the North East Mountain Bike Trails: * A Phase 3 Power Study is undrway for the North East, to leverage what I hope will be approved new irrigation schemes across Tasmania - including near Scottsdale. In my view this is one of the most important enablers of Tasmanias future prosperity; * $2.7 million was committed to establishing the Major Projects Approval Agency in Launceston last July. Other local support outcomes include short-notice funding for the Ravenswood Neighbourhood House; helping Waverley solve a road safety problem and confirmed postal services; Tasmania’s Tradestart funding saved; a Black Spot fix on Westbury Road is about to be completed; work is well underway with Councils to secure Stronger Regions funding; the Royal Flying Doctor Service Shelter is up on Flinders Island and almost $1 million has been secured for Flinders Island airport upgrades; Peter Dutton, Michael Ferguson and I announced $23 million for elective surgery; and improvements have been made to Prospect High School / Newstead Christian College / St Pats / Launceston Christian Academy…etc Many of the things I mention above are important in creating more local jobs and I know the State Liberal Government is similarly working hard on this after 16 years of Labor and Labor-Greens Government. Federally, the year has been a good one: #carbontax gone☑ #miningtax gone☑ boats stopping☑ $50bn infrastructure package☑ $2bn red tape cut☑ 3xFTAs☑ Lots more to look forward to and do in 2015-16!
