HAS RAPE BECOME LAWFULLY ACCEPTED? Its very unfortunate that rape especially violent ones and that of minors which is the worst offence you can commit in the western world becomes the LEAST OFFENCE you can commit in Nigeria. When you go to the law enforcement agencies to report rape first they ridicule you even female officers too. I have experienced several incidents where I had to intervene and enlighten the officers. Can you imagine where the daughter of a poor hawker is raped and she is asked to provide the logistics for an arrest to be made. If she checks the rigours involved she will resign to fate and say LET GOD BE THE JUDGE! There was a particular case that the victims mother was locked up in the Police Cell because she dared to complain, when I saw the woman crying I had to call ACP Dan Okoro a fine Police Officer and his intervention turned the case arround. I have fought so much about this not just because I am blessed with female children but because of the eternal psychological trauma it leaves on the victims. RAPE IS BEING TREATED WITH LEVITY IN NIGERIA AND THE SO CALLED NGOs ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING! 95% of the girls in Nigeria lose their virginity through rape! Try to interview the woman beside you and let her honestly tell you how she was deflowered or the first time she did it. This and other common injustices is what is pushing me to go into politics.
