HAVEN FOR SHIPS Henry Drummond, a famous Scottish preacher, - TopicsExpress

HAVEN FOR SHIPS Henry Drummond, a famous Scottish preacher, commented, The trouble with the religious is that they often care more for religion than humanity. Christ cared more for humanity than religion. Rather, His care for humanity was the chief expression of His religion. Drummonds charge is often true when we let our organizations or creeds overshadow our compassion. Gods Word indicates that Zebulun never let this happen. When Jacob blessed his children just before he died, he said many sad things about some. Simeon and Levi had been instruments of cruelty, and Reuben had disappointed him terribly. Of Zebulun, however, he fondly said: He shall become a haven for ships. In other words, the great heart and compassion of Zebulun offered rest to the traveler, weary of being tossed about and threatened by the heavy seas. His personality appealed to those who seek the security of a harbor. What makes some men attract and others repel those seeking help? Kindness is the key. One of the Proverbs notes: What is desired in a man is kindness (19:22). In other words, that which makes a man desirable is his kindness to those about him. Kindness makes a person more approachable. The hurt one, seeking help, opens his heart to one who is kind. He knows he will not be condemned or rejected. The world needs more harbors and fewer coral reefs on which so many ships have dashed. Each of us should pledge to be more accessible, more loving, more tender and kind.
