HEADS UP! As some of you may already know - Facebook is freezing personal accounts that dont have people names. (&#%*$@^!) What this means is - if you use your Farm/Business name, Spiritual, Artist or nickname on a personal page, you need to make a decision - NOW. Dump the account or change the name that appears on it. (Sorry if this is a repeat for some folks. Im posting on several groups in hopes that very few friends are locked out of legitimate accounts. I encourage folks to copy/paste to share.) Business/Farm names on business accounts should be fine. BEFORE they freeze your account, put a reasonable People name as the official name (and farm or nickname in the parenthesis) as your official name. I wouldnt use a critters name if its something like Fluffy - thats just asking for trouble. (Im not sure if they are going to start asking for ID for every change just yet.) Folks changing their name due to marriage are being tasked to prove the change with legal ID. People with (as a friend described it) non-normal Anglo-Saxon names (or as someone else posted Hippy names and creative spelling) may be forced to prove that *THIS* is their real name. On at least one occasion, it has been claimed that FB has changed the name without seeking prior approval. If you dont update your current personal page, it is only a matter of time before FB freezes the account (no access to photos, articles, etc.) Even if you have no intent to USE the new name, at least you will have access to reroute friends to a business page or new personal page and save info. Im assuming they wont allow two same-name accounts to the same e-mail. IF you bail from your old account completely, you will need to re-apply to all of your old LIKEs and memberships. And before everyone has hissy-fits - I think this stinks, BUT in the last two weeks the upsurge in fake accounts spreading malware has increased by 400% - just in what Ive seen on pages I administer. (I always wait a few days before accepting member requests, unless I know you personally. Hinky requests have increased from one a week to more than 10 in three days.) And yes... making people start a business account may increase FB revenue. In the three or so years Ive had a business page, Ive not given FB one penny. Research has shown that paying to promote your page/post does NOT increase your exposure to YOUR target market. Still stinks. Up to you if you choose to fight it.
