HEADS UP! The 3rd Annual Pedal The Plains Bicycle Tour will be in Morgan County next weekend, the 19th thru 21st, so there will be lots of bicycles moving down county roads and state highways. NOTE: this is a bike -ride-, not a race. On Friday morning after openings ceremonies in Wiggins, bikes will begin their trek across western Morgan Count,y basically using Hwy 144 from I-76 until they reach Fort Morgan. There will be stops along the way and riders can take advantage of various educational programs and displays, designed to show others about life on the rural Plains of Colorado. Once in Fort Morgan, the riders will take advantage of the Fall Harvest Car Show and other events Friday night. Saturday morning, Act 2 will take them north of Fort Morgan on Hwy 52 to Rd T.5, east to Rd 24 (Dodd Bridge Rd), south to Rd R and continuing east to Brush. Riders will then go north on Hwy 71 into Weld County, ending up in Sterling for Saturday night. They will also have an opportunity to stop in Brush both on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, the riders return to Wiggins, coming back into the county on Hwy 6 from Sterling. From Hwy 6 they will jog onto Hwy 34, turn south on Hwy 71 to Rd R, continuing west on Rd R to Rd 20 (Barlow Rd). The bikes will go a mile south to Rd Q and then west all the way into Wiggins where there will be festivities awaiting the by now tired groups. We want everyone to be aware of the additional riders, whom in reality will also be sharing the road with silage and hay trucks, cutters and balers. Again this is not a race, its a fun ride. Though there may be law enforcement at some intersections, and there will be road marshals to help out, they are there in the interest of safety for everyone, not to shut down roads. All riders are to follow the rules of the road which mean they are to obey traffic control devices (ie: stop signs) and our focus will not be to stop traffic for any length of time, certainly not close any intersections or roads. There will also be aid stations along the way, as well as support vehicles for the riders. So everyone welcome our visitors next weekend and show them what we already know here - small town values, country life, and the friendliness of rural America!
