HEADS UP to our eastern neighbors - PASS IT ON!!!! 50,000 households in Westmoreland Co. under boil water alert Boil water alert WESTMORELAND CO., Pa. — Westmoreland County has 50,000 households under a water boil alert. Results based on a filter water sample collected Wednesday during a filter plant performance evaluation at the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland Countys George R. Sweeney Treatment Plant indicate a potential deficiency of the filtration barrier. As a precaution, the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County has issued a precautionary boil water alert for all the communities served by the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County north of Route 30. Affected communities include Adamsburg, Allegheny Township, Avonmore, Bell Township, Delmont, East Vandergrift, Export, Hyde Park, Irwin, Jeannette, Loyalhanna, Manor, Murrysville, North Huntingdon Township, North Irwin, Oklahoma, Penn, Penn Township, Salem Township, Vandergrift, Washington Township, West Leechburg, Apollo, Gilpin, Kiskiminetas, Leechburg, North Apollo, Parks Township, Conemaugh Township, Saltsburg, Derry, White Oak and North Greensburg. Residents living in the affected areas are advised not to drink water without boiling it first. Follow these steps: • Bring all water to a boil. • Let it boil for one minute. • Let it cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County will immediately begin increasing the chlorine dosage and flushing its water distribution lines in the communities directed to boil water as a precautionary measure to the water supply.
