HEALTH NEWS 1. Ebola: FG Bans Importation of Animals The Federal Government has banned the importation of live animals into the country through the nation’s seaports and land borders. The move is part of the measures to curtail the spread of the deadly Ebola virus disease (EVD) in the country. This is coming nearly one month after the deadly Ebola virus disease (EVD) was deliberately imported into Nigeria by a Liberian, Mr. Patrick Sawyer, leading to five deaths, twelve confirmed infection cases and 179 people under surveillance. 2. Ebola: Govt. Urges Lagosians to Embrace Healthy Habit Lagos State Government has urged residents of the state to desist from environmental pollution in order to assist in the fight against the Ebola virus. The government said such habits as defecating and urinating in the public must be done away with for a proper environmental hygiene standard, as a way of curbing the spread of the virus. The Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, had said. 3. Ebola: Four Additional Patients Discharged Nigeria continues to record giant strides in the treatment of Ebola Virus Disease ( EVD ) patients as four additional patients were Monday discharged and declared free of the infectious disease. In a statement in Abuja, Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, said the development portend good omen for Nigeria taking cognisance of the devastation the virus had caused in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
