HEAR & MEOW! Monday September 22, Hollywood Professional Firefighters from Station 31 responded in a non-emergency mode, to the parking garage of Memorial Regional Hospital for the report of a kitten stuck somewhere underneath a car. Seconds after pulling up to the scene, the Fire Engine Crew was diverted to a hit and run accident a few miles down the road. When they cleared, they returned to the parking garage and were met by a concerned ER nurse who had heard the incessant mewing of the little guy when she called us. She also informed us that the owner of the car had entrusted his keys to her, as his wife was going into labor and had to leave. After careful examination, searching, probing and listening for any sounds of life or movement, the Fire Crew almost left because they couldnt hear any sounds normally made by a scared kitten. But through persistence, one of our members (whos become a pro at rescuing kittens), finally found the near-dying kitten wedged behind the front left wheel and carefully extracted him to safety. He was in sad shape indeed, but the generous ER Nurse happily agreed to take it to the Vet to have him looked after. Hollywood Professional Firefighters, (human or not), were always on duty for you!
