HEART OF YEW TEE : YEW TEE BURSARY AWARDS DAY 2015 Sharing by our Grassroots Advisor Mr Alex Yam on Edusave Meits Bursary Awards Day held on 24 January 2015. Teaching kids to count is great, but teaching them what counts is best smile emoticon 10 hours, 2,300 deserving students later, weve completed our annual Edusave Merit Bursary Awards ceremonies! Its always inspiring year after year to see our young students in Yew Tee do well. While we have one of the largest number of students to give recognition to annually, my volunteers and I never tire of the exuberance of the kids and the joy and pride of the parents. Auntie came specially today to witness Her grandchildren receive their bursaries. Like many of our pioneers she had no opportunity for education herself when she was younger but managed to raise her children and now savours that her own grandchildren have a head start in life through education. A few of our students came alone, as their parents needed to be at work, but they doesnt begrudge them, knowing that they are providing for the family the best they can. Encouraged them to do their best and always remember their parents sacrifice. There must be something that the parents of the Chew siblings are feeding them! All 3 received awards for their studies and good character. Actually I believe they have been fed the best of values by their parents, and I wish them all the best! Also met three young girls, who despite their physical disability, have persevered and done extremely well. Their mere effort is so much more than the rest of us, but has shown that nothing is impossible. Just like the story of the lion and the mouse that I shared with all the students. Dont look down on those who may be seemingly weaker, they are all wonderful in their own way and are of equal or even greater value than us. These are just some of the many inspiring stories of our students. Well done! May you always do well and always remember that behind each of us is a huge support network of family and friends, all of whom have played a part in moulding us to be the best we can be! Say thank you every moment, say I love you often, and give each other a hug daily! Thank you to all our volunteers and student leaders, especially Jih Leong who has been organising our ceremonies year after year! Its been a long day but for everyone to keep the smiles glowing and the serving going is simply wonderful!
