HEATWAVE! We hope you are enjoying the warm weather but it can be a difficult time for our pets. To make them more comfortable - provide all animals with adequate shelter and water, particularly for dogs in kennels or small animals in cages, remember that the sun will move round during the course of the day. Avoid walking dogs in the hottest part of the day, early morning or late evening is best, and avoid high energy exercise such as chasing a ball as they may over heat very quickly. Remember that the roads and pavements will still be hot even in the evening when the air temperature is cooler. Never leave your dog in a stationary car as the temperature can rise to dangerous levels in minutes and take care when travelling. Make sure white dogs and cats have appropriate sun cream on their noses and ears as they can burn just like we do. There have already been fatalities due to the heat both locally and across the UK so please take care and be sensible.
