HEAVEN. At the Redeemed Christian Church of God, heaven was the Bible study for today, for this Sunday. At one meeting I went, it was stated there are three heavens. They said the atmosphere we are in is the first heaven, the next heaven is the outer space, and the third haven is heaven itself, where God dwells. They quoted from 2 Corinthians 12, verse 3. I paste the first six verses of that same chapter here. 2 Corinthians 12 King James Version (KJV) 1 A It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) 4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 5 Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities. 6 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me. He said he knew a man who was caught up to the third heaven, not that he was saying there are only three heavens. What is heaven, how could we describe it? Through our limited knowledge, we usually think heaven must be a place. Actually, heaven might be a place, it might also be a state of existence. The Bible says somewhere, your days on earth would be like heaven. . We should not only look at heaven as a place, a physical reality. Heaven is Shamayim in Hebrew, and it is formed from two different Hebrew words, Shem, and Mayim. Shem means name, and Mayim means waters. The first time heaven is mentioned in the Bible, the mention of water follows closely behind it. Heaven might be a state of believers, who have been washed from their sins, and who have obtained a new name, by virtue of their relation to Christi. In fact heaven might have to do completely with Christ, that is if heaven is not Christ himself. Deuteronomy 11:21 21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
