HEL Performance | FIM News | FIM Approved Product 2015-2016 Phil Morris appointed FIM Race Director Following the decision of Tony Olsson to end his career as FIM Race Director, the FIM has appointed Phil Morris as from the start of the 2015 FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship. Tony Olsson occupied the position of FIM Speedway Race Director with great competence from 2010 to 2014 and will now pursue his Speedway career within the Swedish Motorcycle Federation (SVEMO). The FIM and its promoter BSI would like to warmly thank Tony for his commitment during that time and wish him all the best in his new position at the SVEMO. The new FIM Race Director Phil Morris spent 20 years as a professional Speedway rider, racing all over the world for many teams in various different countries. After retiring from competitive Speedway at the end of the 2009 season, he has remained involved in the sport in a coaching, organising and management role in the British Under 21 and Under 16 (Youth) scene. Phil worked closely with the FIM on the development of the Under 16 250cc movement, with Great Britain featuring among the countries pioneering this class. He spent two seasons as the Birmingham ‘Brummies’ Team manager in the British Elite League. After his appointment, Phil said: ‘I am honoured and delighted to be offered the SGP/SWC Race Director role. It’s a fantastic opportunity for me and I am relishing working on behalf of the FIM in such a prestigious position”. Following Phil’s appointment, Armando Castagna, FIM Track Racing Commission Director said: Im proud to have Phil Morris as the new Race Director for the FIM Speedway Grand Prix and World Cup. I have known him a long time and I believe he will be a worthy successor to Tony Olsson. He is young but he already has a lot of experience in Speedway and various training camps that will help him a lot in his new role. Paul Bellamy, Managing Director, BSI Speedway added: “We are delighted the FIM has appointed Phil to the role of Race Director and welcome him to the SGP series. Tony Olsson, who continued to develop the Race Director position over the past four years, is a hard act to follow. But, we are confident that Phil will bring a new perspective to the role and will undoubtedly establish himself as a key member of the FIM team and play his part in the continued success of both the FIM Speedway Grand Prix and the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup. All of the BSI team are looking forward to working with Phil over the coming months and years.”
