HELLO York County Mainers! The following is from the UMaine Cooperative Extension. You can take courses on CANNING, BEEKEEPING, DEVELOPING SPECIALTY FOODS, COOKING FOR CROWDS. If you sign up, please let us know! This fall you can opt in to all kinds of classes at UMaine Extension: Preserving the Harvest: from canning tomatoes to drying fruits, from making apple chutney to fermenting sauerkraut, learn from the experts in one of a dozen food preservation workshops happening all around York County during the next few weeks. Beginner Bee School - 5-week course starts Oct. 15 in Springvale, and teaches you about the honey bee colony; constructing hives; spring, summer and fall management; honey production; wintering hives; identification and control of diseases and pests. Includes texts, a one-year membership in the York County Beekeepers Association, and the opportunity to visit local hives for observation and hands-on experience. Developing Your Specialty Food business: learn how to take your specialty food to market in this 5-week course starting Oct. 3 at our Cumberland County office in Falmouth.
