HELMETS: Yesterday I got stabbed in the eye in Darkwood, hilariously by a falling weapon, not even an attack. I waited it out and things were fine after a few minutes so I jumped back in cautiously. I noticed myself becoming even more cautious, really concerned because sight is my favourite sense (Im a gamer after all), and then something amazing happened. I found Kasper Willumarius Helmet. I was even in an ideal IC position to put it on. (Im his apprentice, we wear the same colours.) And then the most phenomenal thing Ive ever experienced at MC happened: My head and face were safe. Hammers cracked my dome with a dull thunk, swords glanced uselessly from my cheeks. I was invincible! (Not actually, but it felt damn near close) I found myself from being cautious to charging Northbrook, I was possessed by the Vengeance and Wrath of the Cheebites Helmet. I had confidence and was able to set aside much of the caution I keep reserved for my (beautiful) face. What did I learn? Helmets are worth it. Was I sweating? Yes. Was my hearing muffled? Yes. Was it slightly uncomfortable at times? Maybe. But I was able to enjoy myself to a level I dont think I have ever felt in my decade of MC. Will I be getting myself a Helmet? Damn right I am. I get that they arent for everyone IC or OOC. My Bloodmage wont ever be wearing one. But for any front line fighters out there who sometimes feel concern about losing eyes and teeth, or disrupting their perfect faces with hideous scars (I dont mean that, scars are awesome) I really REALLY suggest just trying it once before writing them off like I did. Helmets are worth it.
