HELP! Hey guys, Maranda Maree & I were hoping someone could give us some advice and/or help regarding this situation. Her uncle rescued a beautiful dog named Copper who is a pit bull mix from their neighbours who were torturing him and using him as a hunting dog. He has since been with Amandas uncle for the past 12 months, when they first took over his care they notified the council (of course wanting to do the right thing) they did not mention his breed, a council employee came over to assess Copper and was very impressed by how placid and calm he was and stated that he needed to be muzzled when walked and they would get back to the family regarding any other requirements. 12 months later the council have contacted Amandas uncle and informed him that they need to surrender Copper to the council within the next week and he is to be put to sleep as he is an illegal breed. Just as any family pet, Copper is Amandas uncles companion and they are their own little family. He has never roamed the streets unattended, never hurt anybody, never caused any disruption to the community and yet they are insisting he be put to sleep. Is there anybody who knows a way in which we can keep Copper alive and with his family?? Its so shameful the way in which Councils are so prepared to end the life of an innocent animal who deserves a long loving life with his family simply because he looks a certain way. We would greatly appreciate any help xox Dogs On Trial DOT Victoria // https://bawp.org.au/tag/breed-specific-legislation-2/
