HENRY COUNTY – During overnight hours next week, contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan to restrict westbound Interstate 70 to one lane approaching State Road 3 (New Castle Exit 123). Beginning Monday, July 28, at 8 p.m., crews will restrict the right shoulder and right lane of westbound I-70 between mile markers 115 and 123. Overnight restrictions will take place from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night while crews install drainage pipe in the roadway. These restrictions are scheduled to repeat through Friday, August 8, at 7 a.m. Once drainage installation and patching are completed, an intermediate layer of asphalt will be paved on westbound I-70. A new surface layer will then be paved in both directions between State Road 3 and State Road 109. E & B Paving, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractor for the $7.7 million project, is expected to complete all work on the 7-mile section of I-70 by November. All traffic lanes in both directions are included in the contract. All lane restrictions are expected to take place during weeknights and weekends. Additional highway work zones and lane restrictions can be expected on I-70 in Hancock and Wayne counties. For information on INDOT work zones and highway restrictions, go to trafficwise.in.gov or call toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623). Motorists are urged to practice safe driving habits, especially in and around work zones. Follow speed limits, maintain safe distances from other vehicles and avoid all distractions—including cell phones. The Indiana Work Zone Safety Law sets steep penalties for driving infractions within highway work zones. INDOT partners with the Indiana State Police to provide increased patrols and promote public safety in work zones. For more information on work zone safety, go to workzonesafety.in.gov.
