HERE IS WHAT EVERY AFRICAN SHOULD KNOW ABOUT CUBA. READ, WATCH & LEARN. - Cuba has always been Africas only true friend. From the liberation of Angola to the end of Apartheid in South Africa and consequent release of Nelson Mandela and now the fight against Ebola in West Africa. Cubans have always been one of the first to arrive and the last to leave during some of Africas most difficult times. - Many Cubans have always seen Africa as the mother country of so many Cubans and blacks scattered through out the world due to Slavery. Many Cubans whose ancestors were African slaves, the fight for the liberation of Angola & South Africa was a way to repay a debt to History. In 14yrs of war over 400 thousand Cuban, Doctors, teachers, engineers as well as soldiers, played an important role in Angola. More than 2000 lost their lives. - Twenty-five years ago, in March 1988, the army of South Africas apartheid regime was dealt a crushing defeat by Cuban, Angolan, and Namibian combatants at the battle of Cuito Cuanavale in Angola. That triumph, South Africas future president Nelson Mandela proclaimed, marked a milestone in the history of the struggle for southern African liberation. With the victory at Cuito Cuanavale, Angolas sovereignty was secured. Namibias independence was won. The deepening revolutionary struggle in South Africa received a powerful boost. Between 1975 and 1991 some 425,000 Cubans volunteered for duty in Angola in response to requests from the Angolan government to help defend the newly independent country against multiple invasions by South Africas white-supremacist regime, backed by its allies in Washington and elsewhere. - Believe It Or Not, Cuba Is Providing The Most Aid For Ebola Of Any Country. Cuba was the initial and biggest single provider of healthcare workers to the Ebola crisis in West Africa, more than the Red Cross or richer nations, the World Health Organization says. Cuba has provided the numbers and the people, said Jose Luis Di Fabio, the WHO representative. There are more human resources from Cuba than from many, many NGOs [non-governmental organisations] put together. Over 160 Cuban doctors and nurses arrived in Sierra Leone , the largest medical team from a single country to arrive in West Africa since the outbreak began last March. An additional 296 Cuban healthcare workers was sent to Liberia and Guinea after undergoing training to become more familiar with the virus, which has claimed at least 6,000 lives. - And do you remember hurricain Katrina when Cuba volunteered to send doctors and engineers to help? Not did they only relate to the suffering of humanity, they could identify with the suffering of their African American brothers & sisters as the whole world stood and watch. Thats why they wanted to help so bad but unfortunately their help was declined by the US.
