HERE is my only Canadian Memorial Cross (GVIR) - to C/96121 Sergeant Michael Edward MALONEY - Canadian Army Corps of Military Staff Clerks - who Died on Service, 21 July 1946. The Cross was presented to his wife, Lillian Maloney of Ottawa. He is buried at the Ottawa (Notre Dame) Roman Catholic Cemetery. This Cross is very similar to the New Zealand Memorial Cross, instituted in 1960, whereas the Canadian Memorial Cross dates from 1919. In 2009, Great Britain introduced the Elizabeth Cross - again, very similar to, and based on the Canadian and New Zealand versions.
