HEY EVERY1....IT IS THAT TIME AGAIN WHERE I PUT UP ANOTHER HEALTH ISSUE AND HOW YOGA CAN EITHER PREVENT, ALLEVIATE OR HELP YOU COPE WITH AND TODAYS WINNER IS.........DU DU DUH!!!!!... Asthma A respiratory disorder where the bronchi tubes (airways) in the lungs become inflamed, so breathing becomes more difficult. When irritation comes into contact with the lungs the bronchi tubes narrow and the muscles around them tighten causing phlegm (sticky mucus) to occurr which can lead to breathing difficulties, wheezing, coughing and a tight chest (an asthma attack). Common irritations can be dust mites, animal fur, pollen, smoke, cold air and chest infections. Yoga Benefits. Poses like Back Bends and Chest Openers correct poor posture and lift the chest open, Side Bends create space in the ribs enabling you to inhale more oxygen, while ujjai pranyama (victorious breath) helps to dry out the sticky mucus which causes an asthma attack. All of these positions can help to open out the bronchi tubes and help to clear out infection, more and more doctors are recommending a yoga practice for asthma sufferers due to the alleviating effects it has on asthma.
