HI FRIENDS!! IT IS A GOOD DAY. A GOOD, GOOD DAY!! I had blood work and a doctors appointment with Dr. Peter Anglin at 8:20 this morning. Just like Giselle and Carmen before her, Eryn left her home crazy early to be in Kettleby and she took off work to support me. Vijs parents drove up to take Sawyer for the day and get Fisher on the bus. Vij, Eryn and I trekked off to the Stronach Cancer Center. We walked in nervous. We all walked out staring wide-eyed at each other. So thats what a good doctors appointment feels like!! The blood work was normal, fast flowing, no jello in sight. I weighed in and my weight is holding pretty steady - good. We met a nurse Yulia and then Dr. Anglin. I had a list. Heres how it went: Nausea: I am scared to take prescription drug as nurse said it causes constipation. Already dealing with cramps that have me up from 4:30 to 6 a.m. most days despite heavy sleeping pill. Toughing it out on gravol and hydration for over a week. What are my options? Result: Nurse wrong about constipation side effect. Load up on pill every six hours, new prescription given for number of needed pills. Cramping & Digestion: I am not constipated as I go every day. I do not have diarrhea. Doctor, I have ass confusion. So imodium is not needed. Stool softener is not needed. What is this? What can I do? Straighten out my ass please! Result: It is still soon after colon resection. This is likely my body just dealing with what it has gone through. The cramping is likely a combination result from surgery and the chemo. Was right not to take anything for it. Keep doing what I am doing with my diet. Sleeping pill prescription renewed. Blood - How are my numbers? Is it too thick? What are my counts? Result: No counts given specifically, but my numbers are significantly UP from BEFORE chemo. Some of that is due to where I started given my recent colon surgery etc. But! He is very pleased with my results and appearance. Can I get a Woot, Woot!!?? Smoothies are working. Hydration & IV at home: I am not sure it is worth it. Emotionally it chains me to a bed for 4-6 hours and makes me feel like a cancer patient for 3 days. It scares my kid. It bruises my port. I have nausea anyways and all that saline makes me not want to eat so I deal with low blood sugar nausea. Result: That sucks. Its now canceled. Number of chemo sessions: Dr. Anglin suggested four rounds, Dr. Law has me at six. My scan is on November 4, which if you look at the calendar looks like 5 rounds. How am I doing? Do I have to do all? Result: Dr. Anglin will talk to Dr. Law, but between 4-6 is good. 5 might be perfect number. That would put my fifth round on October 29th. Dr. Law emails Dr. Anglin at like 10 p.m. at night. He will pin this down, but 5 sounds good. Could still be six. Other side effects: Hands hurting, Chia pet shedding, dark blotches on skin....all normal and to be expected. Sunnybrook scans & MRI: A lovely confused woman named Sandra keeps leaving messages on my machine with CTs on Nov 4, wait, Nov 25, no, no, ignore message, its the 4th. Hold on, that could be the MRI. Who is Sandra? Can you please help? I am over or under booked. Result: Anglin thinks they may want duplicate scans a few weeks apart. This could be why all the appointments. That or she is confused. Also, given I am in the clinical trial, there may be additional MRIs. He will look into it. Then my Eryn pipes up with... About the clinical trial - Could the contrast agent from the clinical trial have had any adverse effect on Christy? You know, she sent me a text on her way in saying that they were going to give her a drug that would cause genital stimulation. I told her to bring me some home. Silence, shock & awe. Genital Stimulation?? Anglin gasps and looks at me for confirmation. Its true. But not the good kind. Felt like attack of fire ants. There was a burning, moving, biting sensation. One guy cracked his head on the MRI machine out of shock. I add. Dr. Anglin stared at us. Vij and Dr. Anglin involuntarily cross their legs simultaneously. Eryn laughs. Yes, we were disappointed too. Anglin is laughing now. Oh God! Ill find out about the MRI. Then he says, I hear we have a friend in common? (meaning Jeanne Rah) I say, Yes, I heard all about how she was partying with my Doc! He laughs and says Well, it was a Wednesday night BBQ and I might have had one beer. (Dont worry Doc, we dont have a breathalyzer on us. No judgement from this crowd!) He adds Jeanne is great. We all nod in agreement. And off he went to get my prescriptions ordered. I turn to Eryn. Genital Stimulation?? Really?? She says Well, you wanted him to remember us!! Mission Accomplished. Chemo Round #3 on Wednesday. xoxo Christy
