HI WILL, just sitting her messing around as usual while trying to drum up something to write about. I was able to take care of Christmas earlier today and last evening was fun and full of cheer. And now I have some time on my hands again. I don’t know if you’ll find time, during the Christmas spirit, to read this and I don’t know whether you’ll have some fun with it or not, but it cost nothing for me to send it. Some things about the internet I love. It’s almost like a free spirit at times, and there are times when it seems to belong to some great order. Sometimes it seems contrived. ALIENS – ARE THEY SOCRATIC (Chapter One – First Draft) If Aliens exist, and have visited our planet, and perhaps made contact with some of our inhabitants, if this is so, let us examine it. Let us question ourselves – about this matter. Let’s gloss over the easy stuff and get to the hard questions as soon as possible. Because it’s never too soon to tackle the hard stuff, let’s begin here, their mode of operation. How do these Aliens operate? Let’s begin with travel. TRAVEL – are we limited by the speed of light – about a billion kilometers per hour. That’s mighty fast. Anyone travelling that fast is just smoking. Travelling at the speed of light is smoking fast. While travelling at the speed of light, we could cover an enormous distance in one year, to be exact, 9,460,800,000,000 kilometers, or 5,865,696,000,000 miles. That’s how far we could travel. I don’t know how to covey those numbers in words. When it comes to that distance in miles, I can see eight-hundred-and sixty-five trillion, six hundred-and-ninety-six-billion of them, but that’s as far as I can go, and there’s still a 5 at the beginning to be accounted for. That’s where I get stymied. I don’t know what those miles are called, and there are 5 of them. So without that knowledge, the only way I could write 5,865,696,000,000,000 would be cumbersome and questionable. Here, let me show you: Eight-hundred-and-sixty-five-trillion-six-hundred-and-ninety-six-billion-preceded-by-five-times-X. X being the name of the number I dont know. As you can see, writing that number in a coherent manner is out of the question for me. Not really, I’m just kidding – X is a quadrillion. Here’s what a quadrillion looks like, if you want to express it as a number: 1,000,000,000,000,000. Could you imagine if they were dollars? Oh boy! Or even pennies from heaven – I’ll take it. Yeah a quadrillion pennies, I’d be a millionaire ten thousand times over. That would be cool, pennies from heaven to the tune of ten thousand million dollars. All in American dollars eh? To hell with the other stuff. I don’t want no pesos, rubles, dinars or drams and keep your rupees and wons. Now, the known-universe is a mighty big place. The universe is our home. It is the home of everything found within its boundaries, or, the universe is boundless and it dwells in endless time and space. A place that is endless. Either way, we know how big our universe is because we know how far light travels in one year, and we have seen light that is 13,800,000 years old. So in order to determine the actual size of our own universe, you simply multiply 5,856,696,000,000 X 13,800,000 to determine the radius. The distance in miles from beginning to end is 80,946,604,800,000,000,000. If we want to know the volume, the number of square miles in the universe, we multiply 4.3 X 80,946,604,800,000,000,000 and then multiply that number by 80,946,604,800,000,000,000 and then multiply that number by 80,946,604,800,000,000,000 and there you have it. All in all, when the multiplication is done we find an enormous number of square miles, somewhere in the neighbourhood of a centillion. The size of the universe is beyond the comprehension of the smartest mind on this planet. A number so great that it cannot be understood by anyone, let alone me or you. The universe began a long-long time ago, and apparently from what we know, it began as something small, as small as the head of a pin. A single entity full of piss and vinegar as some like to guffaw, but no. It all began as a single entity filled to the brim with energy. An energy that was far more powerful than anyone could possibly imagine. The beginning is unimaginable. ENERGY AND MATTER. There is an enormous amount of poison gas and frigid ice and iron and jagged rocks whirling around throughout the universe at tremendous speed, faster than sound. From a distance it all seems so serene, but up close it is dangerous and mean. Throw in some dark matter, some negative energy, some black holes, wormholes and gravity, and there you have it – a monstrosity. The universe is invisible to everything that abides within it, everything that is, that have no eyes to see. Mountains and trees, lakes and rivers, the stars that shine late at night, do not shine for thee. There they stand or roam free, oblivious to everything they cannot see, as blind as blind can be. Snow-top mountains reach into the sky, raging rivers and shallow streams, deep-blue water and evergreens, oh what a sight to see. Some say that man was created with a purpose, and the purpose is in order for the universe to see itself, to see itself through the eyes of man. Actually, I think the saying is “to know itself” rather than just merely see itself, but that would be the purpose of the human mind. The purpose of the human mind is meant to accomplish this task, the knowing aspect of it all. They eyes are simply to see. The ears to hear. The nose to admire the aroma. The touch to feel that which can be felt. It’s all part of the whole shebang. That is the purpose of the mind. To dream and acknowledge the unknown. To pretend. To provide. To make-up stories. To sing and dance, to laugh and cry, sometimes with joy, sometimes not. To comprehend that which is incomprehensible – but hey, to try! That then, is the purpose of the human mind. To try to comprehend, here on Earth, during a lifetime, and then to drift off in a whisper, and perhaps drift off again, the same mind, until satisfied that all is in order, and to realize, it was all for its own splendour, and nothing more. A brilliant demonstration on display for all of eternity, or until the return of time and another demonstration. One big bang after another and another like the heartbeat of a giant. Now when I speak of the human mind, I don’t mean every one of them. Some human minds are wretched and don’t belong in this universe. I don’t know why they exist. I speak only of healthy human minds, the minds that come to explore and appreciate the magnificent aspects of life. I don’t speak of minds full of skullduggery and deceit and destruction. No, although we find them everywhere, I don’t speak of them. I speak only of the bright healthy minds that were intended when the universe was conceived. The universe does not want to see itself, through eyes filled with hatred and lies, nor hear itself with ears full of wax or hot oil. No, it wants to be heard with ears that are pure and it wants to be seen with eyes that are true. I don’t think that’s too much for the asking. To think otherwise would be absurd. During the years, a good long time ago, some people, some old Europeans, had boiling hot oil poured into their ears because they had impure thoughts. People with authority thought that was best for them. Some had their eyes gouged out, some had their limbs torn apart – it’s not a difficult task. I don’t know, but I’d venture a guess, that the universe does not want to see itself through the eyes of authority. I don’t know, but I’m willing to guess again, that the universe does not want to know itself in this manner. There are some things that are better left unknown. To be continued....
