HIGHLIGHT STORM FROM TODAY. A supercell thunderstorm has hit the town of Leyburn in SEQLD today producing massive hail stones to approximately 6cm in diameter causing damage! At around 3pm today a severe max intensity hail core was detected on radar over the town, HSC issued warnings and push notifications along with the BOM. A short time later the storm weakened however reports and pictures came in. Since then we have conducted a full investigation into the storm by contacting local police reading further reports on page then with BOM. Our first reaction was of shock and disbelief to see such large hail stones on a day which was only expected to produce up to golf ball sized hail. Steve the local police officer mentioned they were the largest Hail stones he had ever seen and yes cricket ball sized hail landed in his back yard. Most of the hail stones were gold ball size however the larger stones caused Damage with broken car and house windows. We are unsure just how many residents were impacted at this time. Anyway I thought Id mention this storm as being significant so far this season! Here is the image of the core was relies on the old Marburg and Moree radars for detection. The hail image was forwarded to us by Maurean Brand from Leyburn. We hope everyone is ok out there in the small town tonight. Image 3: Google maps location ~ Jeff Higgins ~
