HIGHLY RECOMMENDED As someone who has raised her dogs on home prepared food since 1981 (Lord, I am getting old!), Ive still kept an eye on the commercial foods available. I need to be able to recommend foods to clients & puppy owners, and meet the ever varying needs of my own dogs. It has been good to see that there are ever more choices out there that allow concerned owners to feed very high quality food. I am very pleased with the offerings from The Honest Kitchen (THK). I dont recommend a lot of products, since I usually have caveats that go along with my support. But other than acknowledging that their ingredients may not be suitable for your particular dog, THKs offerings are wonderful. Highly recommended! THK has a wide variety of options (including grain-free) ranging from complete meals to base mixes to which you may add your choice of raw or cooked meat/fish/protein source. They offer options for dogs and cats. It is very nice to have a well balanced base mix to work with. I just thaw the meat of choice, rehydrate the Honest Kitchen base mix, and voila - high quality meal easily mixed up. Its much easier to use the base than to create the base ourselves, which is what weve been doing for years. For my old girl Rain going through chemo, the THK food, Embark, offers an excellent grain-free option using turkey. Shes maintained weight, looked great and had a strong appetite. I did some math, and between the cost of all the separate ingredients Ive been gathering & using, and the time involved in ordering/acquiring & shopping for ingredients, and the slips that occur when we dont always have x, y or z -- well, The Honest Kitchen is a solid buy. Ill gladly take the extra time and just enjoy the dogs! While Im grateful for all Ive learned in 30+ years of home prepared dog food, this old lady can also appreciate that sometimes the wise choice is letting someone else do the heavy lifting.
