HILLSIDE HELPS-“Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works - TopicsExpress

HILLSIDE HELPS-“Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I could declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.”(Psalm 40:5) It is easy to look at the evil things going on in the world and become discouraged. Just to let you in on what must be a secret to a lot of Christians today, we are not the only people who have lived in “evil times”. I know that may shock some of you awake this morning. Evildoers and evils deeds have been around in every generation since creation. The difference is that as evil does increase, leading up until the Rapture, we have more exposure through media and social networks. It seems for every one hundred reports of bad things happening, there is one story of something good. We are saturated with the evil around us. Every time we pick up a newspaper, there are articles strewn from the front page to the back page about death, destruction, and deceit. Child of God, it is high time we change our focus. In order to do this, we must make a commitment to “trust the Lord with all our hearts”. (Prov.3:5a) Fair weather faith, meaning faith in God only through the good times, is not the faith revealed in God’s Word. Real faith is demonstrated most clearly when the Christian lives in victory through circumstances that are difficult and trying. If you talk to many saints these days, they are trying to find a promised land where the battles are few and bread is plenty. But, that my friend is literally out of this world. Oh, yes, we can enjoy the blessings of God now, but God saves the very best for last. Another way to walk through and persevere in difficult and evil times is to start a practice of counting the blessings in your life. While most everybody else has decided to count all their heartaches and pains, we must discipline ourselves to turn the world off, open our Bibles and let God speak through the Spirit unto our hearts. A good place to start is Psalm 40. Here David lists a number “wonderful works” which the Lord had done for him personally. The Lord inclined His ear, and heard David’s cry. (vs. 1) The Lord rescued him out of the mire, set his foot upon a rock, and gave him a place to stand firmly. (vs.2) God put a new song of praise in David’s heart. David looked back and started counting his blessings and discovered that there were too many to count. “more than can be numbered” (vs.5b) David explained the means by which these blessings had been poured out in his life, “Blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust”. (vs. 4) Today, count and re-count again and again the wonderful things the Lord has done for you in the past. Then look closely at how He is blessing you now. Make yourself a list on paper and keep it. Add to it daily. This will strengthen your faith in the Lord and the future. Since the Lord has blessed you in the past in miraculous ways, you can be assured He will do it again. Don’t become impatient with the Lord. Instead, “wait patiently for the Lord.” (vs. 1), which means “in waiting, wait on the Lord” (Bro Jerry) PLEASE SHARE
