HILLSIDE HELPS-“Woe unto him that striveth with his maker! Let the potsherds strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? Or thy work, He hath no hands? (Isaiah 45: 9) How absurd it is to look into the face one’s Maker and question His ability to do anything He wills. God, our Creator and Maker, is eternal and does whatever He wills without the approval of anyone, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and do of His good pleasure.” (Phi. 2:13) He is over all of the creation and continues to carry out His everlasting decrees. Man is only one small part in the total creation of millions of things that are on, above, and beneath the earth. Man is special to God in that he is created in His image. When He first created Adam, this was special and uniquely personal. The act of creating Adam, as recorded in the Genesis account, established a personal relationship between God and the first man. No other aspect of creation enjoys the same relationship with their Creator. Man was formed from the dust of the earth and the breath of God entered in thereby creating man as a living soul. This is what makes man different from every other created animal or plant. God fashioned man in a special way, that is, to bear the stamp of His own likeness. Man received the attributes of God so that in a rational way, he is like man because he could reason and had intellect, will, and emotion. In a moral sense, he was like God because he was first good and sinless. This did not make Adam deity, but humanity in the likeness of his Maker. The picture in Isaiah 45 is clear. God would cause two things to happen in the future of Israel. One, He would have them taken captivity and later set free by a pagan king. Two, He would ultimately redeem Gentiles as well as Jews, worldwide. Whatever God wills, He will do. There is nothing too hard for God. The prophet Isaiah is responding to a presupposed question that would be on the minds and lips of the Jews. His answer to them was in the form of a very direct question; “Shall the clay say to Him that fashioneth it what makest thou?” How unseemly it is to even imagine a fashioned pot would have anything to say to the Potter that formed it. We are all as clay in the hand of the master Potter. He finds us, frees us, and forms us into whatever He wills. We have been created for His Glory (Isa.43:7) and transformed by His Grace (Eph. 2:8-9). We are His workmanship. Our stature looks, and personality are the design and plan of our Maker. He regenerates and changes so that our character is aligned to the character of Christ. His work on us and in us is ongoing. He places us on the Potter’s wheel to smooth out rough edges or use His heavenly sand paper to polish out our imperfections. Understanding His love and kindness toward us and how He is always providing what we need, not what we want, it seems simply out of the question to question God. Instead of doubting and questioning the Lord, we should surrender to His will and purpose through all situations and wait silently and patiently for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. The peace of God is made available to those who accept God’s plan and follow it. (Bro Jerry) PLEASE SHARE
