#HIMYM How I Met Your Mother finale SPOILERS!!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!!!! Like pretty much everyone, I hated the finale on the first impression. After almost 24 hours of pondering it, Im actually coming around now. Allegedly, EVERY scene with the son and daughter was filmed by the middle of Season 2. [IMDB] That means that this ending was at least considered long ago. With that in mind, relive the first 8 seasons. One of the biggest criticisms of the show concept has always been Why would Ted tell his kids about that!?! Many of those moments included women who were not their mother. Deep down, you probably agreed with the criticism, even if you never spoke it. Now look at those 8 seasons through the context of the finale. Ted wasnt telling them about their mother; he was humanizing himself. The show, ultimately, was about a guy letting go. Teds time with Victoria was told with such passion, because he WANTED the kids to know how deeply he loved her, and that it took NOTHING away from the love they would later see him give their mother. Is it the ending I hoped for? No. It was a true finale, though, with a beginning, a middle, and an end. We didnt walk away thinking, Ok, now how is the network going to milk this? (Yes, I know about FATHER. Im talking about a Your Mother and Me spinoff) Other notes: Stinson Wedding: Red Herring/Catalyst Timing: Like most of Season 9, the episode felt like rushing through a checklist. Robin: The writers murdered her character for the final episode. Every bit of compassion we had developed was wiped away by an aura of selfishness. Tracy/YM: I think her Ted-like charisma is what made the end so hard. Face it, those two were so perfect together that we WANTED the spinoff of just them. We didnt get enough of them. I dare crown them the best cast couple since Cliff and Claire Huxtable. They fit together THAT WELL.... Over fragments of only 1 season. Those are my thoughts. What are yours?
