HINDRAF calls on all Malaysians to come forward to stop the development on Vivekanda Ashrama in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. HINDRAF notes that the notice issued by DBKL in the national media on the 27th October 2014 specifies that only neighbors within 200 meters who wish to object to come forward within 14 days to voice their objection. HINDRAF is of the opinion that irrespective of the notice the Malaysian public has a right and should voice out their objections and concerns as the Vivekananda Ashram is a matter of public interest and there is a need to safeguard and preserve our national treasure. Based on section 68 of the National heritage Act 2005, when a site such as the Swami Vivekanda Ashram is involved, any person can nominate a site as a heritage treasure therefore objections from the public at mass on the development on this site does not restrict them as what is stated in the notice by DBKL. Building such as the Vivekananda Ashrama clearly fits all criteria to be a heritage site therefore we urge the public irrespective of race, religion or creed to come forward and object to protect and preserve the Ashrama which is a national treasure. Hindraf calls upon all Malaysians to come out in the open to raise their objections to the building of residential properties which would eventually destroy the original facade of the Swami Vivekananda Ashrama. P.Waytha Moorthy Chair HINDRAF 31st October 2014.
